Saint Patrick Catholic Church was organized in Cedar Falls in 1854, and the first Mass in Black Hawk County was celebrated by Fr. Patrick McGinnis in January 1855.

In its first 12 years of existence, the small flock of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Falls was served by missionary priests who typically rode in on horseback to administer the sacraments and to celebrate Mass. 

In March 1867, Fr. Thomas Gunn began his assignment as the first resident pastor of St. Patrick. The following timeline documents the priests who have served in the role of pastor over the parish's history.
