Sister Parish in Haiti

Our Sister Parish in Haiti

St. Jean Bosco Parish

Our relationship began more than 30 years ago...

Our relationship with St. Jean Bosco Parish in Haiti began more than 30 years ago. St. Patrick Parish is to be congratulated for its ongoing support of our sister parish throughout those many years. Communication has at times been difficult for many reasons (language differences, political turmoil, changes in pastors at St. Jean Bosco, Covid) but support has continued thanks to the committed leadership at St. Patrick. The last visit to Haiti by Patrick parishioners was in 2018. Those who were able to visit testify to the importance of personal contact with our Haitian brothers and sisters. Hopefully another visit can be planned in the coming few years.

The current pastor is Father Michel Raynold. He communicates regularly via email with Rosie Guerrero, chair of our parish committee. He frequently expresses his gratitude to the people of St. Patrick. St. Patrick has typically sent funds quarterly to Haiti. During the past two years the quarterly funds were interrupted because of COVID issues. We are now able to resume scheduling regular support.

Donations sent to Haiti

The generous parishioners of St. Patrick...

Where do the dollars come from that are sent to Haiti? The short answer is from YOU, the generous parishioners of St. Patrick. A few sizable gifts are given each year and MANY donations are made via the Haiti envelopes in the parish envelope packets. Every donation is significant and much appreciated.

How is the money spent in Haiti? The dollars are used in three ways: support of the school, support of a clinic, and support of special projects. St. John Bosco operates a pre-school through grade five school with a total of 260 students. The Sisters of St. Anne manage the school. Nine teachers are paid $66 per month. Support staff are paid less. Funds from St. Patrick are used to pay teachers’ salaries. Parents pay modest tuition for students attending the school. More information on the school will be provided in future bulletins as well as information on the clinic and special projects.

If you have questions about ways in which you might be more actively Involved with our sister parish, please contact Rosie Guerrero. Whether your involvement is through prayers, financial contributions, service on the Haiti committee, or occasional help with other projects, your commitment will enable our parish to continue to reach out to the poorest of the poor.

Call the Parish Office if you are interested in helping with our Sister Parish.

Amen I say to you, whatever you did for one of the least brothers of mine, you did for me. MT 25:40
