Deacon Sevcik to be Ordained

With much joy we share the details of the ordination to the priesthood for our very own Deacon Joseph Sevcik, affectionately known to many as Joey.

Key dates:

  • Novena starts May 14 and is prayed daily until May 22 (Litany to the Holy Spirit at the bottom of this page)
  • Ordination May 23 at 10 AM view (live stream on the Archdiocese website
  • First Mass May 24, 10:30 AM (livestream on our parish Facebook page)

Priestly ordination for Deacon Joseph will take place on Saturday May 23 at 10 AM in Dubuque.  Out of an abundance of caution and love of others, only immediate family will be present in Dubuque for this blessed occasion.  We are able to join virtually and spiritually via the livestream.

He will celebrate Mass on Sunday, May 24 at 10:30 AM. You do not need to be a Facebook user to watch.

To join Deacon Joseph spiritually we can pray for him and his priesthood.  All prayer is good and pleasing to God.  As a way to be united in prayer as a parish family, the family who helped to form Deacon Joseph into the man he is today, we want to storm the heavens on his behalf. You are invited to pray a novena for him in the nine days leading up to ordination day.  A novena is 'nine days' of private or public devotion in the Catholic Church to obtain special graces.  Beginning on Thursday, May 14 and each day through May 22, let us join together in praying the Litany to the Holy Spirit.

May Joseph receive with abundant joy and an open heart all of the graces poured out by the Holy Spirit.  God knows what graces he needs and He will provide them a hundredfold. Soon to be Fr. Joseph, pray for us and know of our prayers for you.

Holy and divine Spirit,
leave us not until we are in possession of the Divine Essence, Heaven of heavens.
Lamb of God, Who takes away the sins of the world,
Send us the divine Consoler.
Lamb of God, Who takes away the sins of the world,
Fill us with the gifts of Thy Spirit.
Lamb of God, Who takes away the sins of the world,
Make the fruits of the Holy Spirit increase within us.
Come, O Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Thy faithful,
And enkindle in them the fire of Thy love.
Send forth Thy Spirit and they shall be created,
And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth.

Let Us Pray
God, Who by the light of the Holy Spirit instructed the hearts of the faithful, grant us by the same Spirit to be truly wise and ever to rejoice in His consolation. Through Jesus Christ Our Lord, Amen.
